Looking at the thread again, it appears that you do have a Phone. Just not one that's with you all of the time.

• Get the purchased music into your Mac's music library. If the music is on CD, you may need to buy an optical drive that plugs into a USB port to help you do this.
• Manually synchronize the music from your Mac to your iPhone (Sync content between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support).
• Add the music on your iPhone to your Apple Watch (Add music to Apple Watch - Apple Support).

You will need the iPhone to change the selection of music on the Apple Watch, but not to play a selection, once loaded.

Apple Watches have always been designed for use with iPhones – not for use as completely standalone devices.

Set up and pair your Apple Watch with iPhone - Apple Support

"To use your Apple Watch, you need to pair it with your iPhone."

They can operate fairly independently once set up – some Apple Watches can even take and place cellular calls – but they need to have associated iPhones. That's true whether you're an Apple Music subscriber or not.

You can transfer the music directly onto your watch, if you have an Apple Music subscription:
