It depends on how the photos have been added to your iPhone.
Photos you have taken with the iPhone camera or saved from other apps to Photos can be deleted by selecting and deleting them in Photos.
But photos you have synced to your iPhone from a computer have to be deleted by syncing again. Change the selection of photos that are to be synced to the iPhone on your computer and sync again. This will remove the previously synced photos.
