How do I update my iPod nano 7th generation?

I believe that there were two versions of the 7th generation iPod nano.
The first version will have OS (operating system) 1.0.4 on it, and cannot be updated to the later version. The second version will have 1.1.2 installed. That version cannot be updated beyond 1.1.2. You should be able to find the version number information on the iPod, in Settings/About.
Effectively, there are no updates for the nano. What were you hoping to achieve with an update?
