By "text entry box" do you mean the formula editor that appears when you select a cell and type = ?
If so, on the Mac you can drag that from where it pops up to wherever you want–bottom, top, side.
It will always first appear near the cell you have selected to enter a formula. But just drag it to reposition it.
If you mean a text box instead of the formula editor, then you can add one wherever you want - top, bottom, side.
You cannot edit a formula you see displayed bottom left. That is read-only, a handy way to check the contents of a selected cell, whether they be a formula, number, text, date or some other value.
