Samsung T7 Shield password prompt on Mac mini 5 backup

Samsung T7 Shield acquired for Mac Mini 5 backup about 1 month ago. Worked fine until this morning.

The password might be in your Keychain.


Try restarting your Mac through Safe Mode.

Seems to be something that can happen with some Samsung T7 external SSDs:

If you don’t have the device password elsewhere, you’re headed for a device reset:

Might also want to check with Samsung support.

This is embarrassing but I seem to have fixed the problem - without knowing how it happened or really what I did to fix it. I believe I managed to get Disk Utility to recognise the SSD so I erased it and I can now start from scratch.

Mr Hoffman and DI Johnson - thank you for your suggestions, I would send a screenshot but now I can’t replicate the prompt. 

The external SSD is now in the process of backing up my system, so I’m back to where I should be.
