video scrub-preview thumbnails back in iOS 18.5?
Hey everyone,
has anyone tested if Apple has restored the scrub-preview thumbnails in iOS 18.5?
To be clear: I’m talking about the frame-by-frame visual previews you used to see above the timeline when scrubbing through a video — not just the timestamp or the thin timeline strip. In iOS 17 and earlier, when you dragged your finger, you’d actually see the video frames update in real time, which made trimming and navigating long videos fast and precise.
Since iOS 17, that’s gone. Now there’s just a small timeline bar with no frame previews. You’re basically scrubbing blind — you only see the time code, not the actual content. It’s made the native Photos app almost unusable for editing.
This feature is essential to me. I work with long videos, and without visual frame previews, I can’t edit properly. It’s the only thing stopping me from upgrading to a new iPhone. I’m still on iOS 17 just because of this.
thanks!
