vectors disappear in canvass

I finished a motion project with 100 vectors. All vectors were saved and locked. When I looked back later, half of the vectors were invisible. I went into the movies to open the back-up files, but they looked the same. The toggle box in the project pane is dimmed to the vectors that are missing in the canvas. If you click on them, nothing happens, but you can see the behaviour icons and the moving path in the canvas, but the box remains greyed out.

Open up an older backup in Movies and rename it, and try to reopen

Unlocked all vectors, tried to visualise clicking on the toggle box, pressing v.

Opened the  media pane and made sure no missing files

Opened render quality and toggled between Draft and Best

Vectors are the assets imported from Adobe Illustrator. it is 100 parts of a painting each containing different colours and in different 2 dimensional geometrical forms. As you can see in the canvas there should be a square image mda by 100 vectors but only 1/3 are visible and the icons in the toggle box in the project pane are greyed out for the vectors that cannot be seen in the canvas
