The maOS operating system is hardened like no other and anti-virus vendors survive based on a genuine fear of viruses on Windows, and instilling fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) about the (marketing) need for their products on macOS. Fear sells.

Yes. macOS built-in security is all you need and 3rd party anti-virus and "cleaners" produce only false positive alarms, obscure errors and system corruption.

Of course A/V companies attempt to scare you into downloading their software or subscribing to their service. I would actually be surprised if this was the first time you saw an advertisement for a company claim you had a virus.

A VPN company is a close second in their scare tactics for marketing purposes claiming that your internet activity is not secure and they offer the solution for you. All complete fabrication in both cases.

Not so much paranoid as gaslighted deceived and exploited by the entrenched multi-billion dollar "anti-virus" industry.

As the software was from a reputable company I installed and run the scan.
