Anti-Virus Software - Concern
I am keen to know if certain anti-virus software suppliers will encourage you to buy their software because they cause you to be concerned.
I recently had a well known anti-virus application invite me to run a free scan to see if I had been infected.
As the software was from a reputable company I installed and run the scan.
The result informed me that I had FIVE infections:
Mac/Hoax.Renos.HX
Trojan IRC/Backdor.Sd.FRV
Adware. Mac.Look2me.ab
A Trojan.Qoologic - Key Logger
Trojan.Fakealert.356
I ran another software anti-virus program and found nothing. I also looked at the programs running in Activity monitor, again I was unable to locate these virus programs.
I also have not been on any dodgy websites as I am very careful with 'unbelievable offers' and 'too good to be true' promotions.
I could not find these alleged viruses anywhere. Are they genuine or just made up to frighten you?
I have heard of key loggers and data theft programs but I cannot recognise any of those which are supposed to be infesting my iMac.
This makes me think that those less scrupulous companies will use certain tactics to frighten you into buying their product just to have the 'found' viruses removed.
Has anyone any knowledge of this practice, or am I being paranoid.
