Duplicate photos showing when transferring from iPhone 12 to Windows laptop

i have an iphone 12 running Ios 18.5 , when i transfer my photos to

my windows laptop i get two copies of the same photos with the file names like this


IMG_8340

IMG_E8340 ( being the cut down version )


one is full frame and one is a cut down version

but on my camera roll there is only one picture .

why am i getting this and is there a way to turn this function off ?

please help its driving me nuts having to delete the duplicates :-(

The E file is the edited version. Photos is a non-destructive editor, and the original picture file is always kept unmodified. When you crop or edit or add comments to a picture, they are added to a database and are displayed on the fly when you look at the pictures--they aren't kept with the Original Unmodified version at all. The edited version appears as a file for the first time when it is transferred. Depending on the transfer technique, you may get the original, or an edited version, or maybe both. If you get both, the edited version is identified with an E.
