Missing Photo After Upgrading iCloud Storage

Hello,

I recently upgraded my iCloud storage to 200GB after keeping all my photos locally on my iPhone for the past two years. After the upgrade, the originals were uploaded to iCloud, but I’ve just noticed that at least one photo has gone missing. I found this out because one of my albums now has 39 photos instead of 40.

I've checked thoroughly — the photo is not in Recently Deleted, Hidden, or anywhere else on my phone or on iCloud.com. It's as if it never existed, although I’m absolutely certain it was there before.

Could you please help me understand what might have happened, and whether there’s any way to recover the missing photo?

Pictures that get added to Photos by some method that isn't fully compatible may be out of the control of Photos. This sometimes happens when a picture comes from a website or is transferred from a computer. Could that be the case, here? Since the picture came from another source, you may be able to go back and get it from there.

It's possible, but I think unlikely, that you can connect the phone to a computer and find it through the original transfer process. On my Mac (you didn't say what kind) I've found some pictures using the Apple app Image Capture.

I've seen some pretty crazy stuff on the internet, as well, but I wouldn't spend money on them. I looked at "diadem's" website, and I wouldn't pay them $60 with no guarantee. They certainly don't mention iCloud.

Perhaps you should be careful recommending products that you haven't tried.
