If you're seeing “iCloud paused” or “Syncing paused” at the bottom of your Messages app, that means iCloud syncing for Messages is temporarily stopped, often due to one of the following reasons:

How to Fix iCloud Syncing Pause in Messages

1. Plug In Your Device

  • iCloud syncing may pause when your battery is low or you're not connected to power.
  • Solution: Plug in your iPhone or iPad and leave it on Wi-Fi.

2. Connect to Wi-Fi

  • iCloud requires a stable Wi-Fi connection to sync Messages.
  • Solution: Ensure you’re connected to a strong Wi-Fi network, not just cellular.

3. Disable Low Power Mode

  • Low Power Mode can pause iCloud syncing to conserve energy.
  • Check this:
  • Go to Settings > Battery, and make sure Low Power Mode is turned off.

4. Check iCloud Storage Space

  • If your iCloud is full, syncing stops.
  • Check this:
  • Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Storage
  • Make sure you have space remaining.

5. Toggle iCloud Messages Off and Back On

If syncing is stuck:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Show All > Messages.
  2. Turn Messages in iCloud off, then turn it back on after a few seconds.

6. Restart Your Device

Sometimes, simply restarting your iPhone or iPad clears up syncing issues.

7. Sign Out and Back Into iCloud (Last Resort)

If nothing else works:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > Sign Out.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Sign back into iCloud and re-enable Messages sync.
