iMovie on Mac downgrades 4K 60 fps HDR iPhone video – please add full support

Hello everyone,

I’m shooting projects on iPhone 14 Pro Max in 4K 60 fps Dolby Vision HDR, and I love using iMovie on Mac because it’s easy and intuitive. Unfortunately, it consistently converts my footage to 30 fps, SDR, and lowers the bitrate when imported into the timeline—even though 4K export is still possible, it's limited to 30 fps forums.macrumors.com+14discussions.apple.com+14discussions.apple.com+14.

This downgrade severely affects my walking-and-talking videos where smooth motion, color depth, and clarity are essential. Other users have noted the same issue: iMovie offers only 4K30 or 1080 60 discussions.apple.com.

What I’d like to see in iMovie:

  • Full support for 4K 60 fps export
  • Preservation of Dolby Vision HDR
  • High bit-rate export options

Please consider these updates in the next version of iMovie. I rely on it for its simplicity—but it needs to match the quality of what our devices can record.

Thanks for hearing me out,

Bilal C, Pakistan.
