BOOKS app on iMac suddenly cannot open PDF files

I have many PDFs in the BOOKS app. Never had an issue before and suddenly It will not let me open any PDFS says I do not have permission!!! Always could whats going on here? How to fix

Can't fix file permissions on PDF in Preview! I have a PDF file that acts like an index with separate links to other files, all in the same folder as instructed. It did work at one point. NOW, when I try to access a linked file, I get this error: The file “0081_inst.pdf” couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it. I've set myself and administrator (me?) for read/write permissions on the files. No joy. I went into Get Info on the Preview app itself and I get: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission. I was able to add myself and admin read/write in the PDF reader app and opening the files works beautifully. How do I fix permissions in the Preview app? AND when I open Users & Groups, why is there a check for Allow user to administer this computer but it's greyed out? I'm running Big Sur 11.6.1.

acrobat reader advanced search error skips files Running latest Reader in Sonoma 14.1 on my new Mac Mini, and since on this new machine and OS, I am not able to do advanced search within folders of PDFs. The error message says 'Search has skipped [number of files] files because these files are corrupted or you don't have permissions to open them.' I do have full read/write permissions, but indeed Reader does not open the files in the folder I was searching. For what it is worth, Preview has no problem opening these files. Reinstalling free Reader for Mac and purging cache content have not changed anything. Ideas? (I am a heavy user of the powerful advanced search feature, and have indexed huge collections of PDFs of historical publications for research...hate losing this functionality.) Thanks!

Preview randomly locks PDF docs Preview app started randomly locking PDFs after I made changes to the docs. MacOS: Ventura 13.2.1 None of my passwords work to open the files. After it's locked, no other software can open it. I spent hours working on the documents and now everything is locked.
