How much RAM do I need for a M4 Mac Miini. 24 or 48GB for using PhotoShop and ON1Raw FMPro Word

I'm already requesting a 1 TB SSD as I've a legacy of files and other apps from running an online store.

Rule of thumb is : Always get as much RAM as you can afford.

If you can afford 48, go for 48, you won't be disappointed and you guarantee enough RAM for all apps in the future.

You cannot modify the amount of RAM after purchase, so you will be stuck with whatever you choose.

Honestly 24GB should be enough for those Apps, but not going to hurt to have more,

I agree with Phil0124 in that 24 should be sufficient. I have a 523 MB page that takes about 3 seconds to open in Photoshop Elements 2025 on a Mac Mini 10 core M4. A 192 MB file takes 2 seconds. A reasonable sized .psd file, 7 MB, opens almost immediately.

So if you're considering the Pro version of Mini M4 I'd go with the 24 GB. If you plan on doing some very large photo editing like my 523 MB file or editing video files than go for the 48 GB.

Note: the times are after Photoshop Elements is already open.

I don't know about the RAM with your apps but unless you like contributing to Apple's ridiculous profits you should get a Thunderbolt NVMe for a quarter the price and enjoy the added flexibility it gives for swapping between computers and keeping should you ever sell your Mac.

I have two 2TB NVMes in Thunderbolt enclosures that cost £170 and a 2TB NVMe in a USB-C enclosure costing £100.

Though the USB-C one is slower it is still more than fast enough for all computer activities.
