Unable to merge folders on MacBook Pro with macOS Sequoia 15.5

I want to merge two folders so that they become identical. I'm told to hold down the option key and drag one to the other. It doesn't work.

The problem occurs on a MacBook Pro and I'm running Sequoia 15.5 both folders are named with identical names

There is an implicit "trick" in what DBAqua suggested. The essence of the trick is that Finder can show multiple Windows at once, side-by-side. Once you see it, you can't Un-see it.

Open the first Folder in Finder.

Then choose 'New Finder Window' off the finder's File menu. A second widow opens without closing the first one.

Then move the folders side-by side on the screen.

Now you are free to drag and drop items between the two folders to accomplish whatever needs to be done.

I use this "trick" to bring two folder up to date, so that each contains copies of the same files, such as on different drives where I want the same contents in each.
