HomePod not resetting after unpairing and removing from Home app

Hello,

I noticed that one of my Homepods (a stereo pair) was flashing its +/- signs.

I used the Home app on my iPhone and unpaired the Homepod from its stereo pair and then removed it completely from my Home app.

I unplugged it, waited 20 seconds and plugged it back in. After 5 seconds I placed a finger on the top and the swirling light started, changed to red, but following about another 20 seconds the swirling red light turned off and it went back to flashing the +/- volume signs. It never stated that it was resetting.

Any thoughts on next steps, or alternative steps?

Thank you.

Which model of HomePod is this? An OG Big one? The flashing volume lights are an indication it has a hardware failure that cannot be fixed. It will never reset or set up again in this state. Sorry. It’s a discontinued model with no warranty.

If it’s the 2 gen big one you should see about getting in touch with Apple or taking it in to an Apple Store to see if they will offer a resolution.

If it’s a HomePod mini you can try restoring it on a computer but first unplug it for over 24 hrs, then plug into the computer. See: Reset HomePod or HomePod mini - Apple Support - Or take it in to get fixed
