Apple Music app on Mac refuses to level the volume of songs when streaming to HomePods

I have all my songs on my NAS. I use an M1 Pro MBP running Sequoia to play the songs.

The good:

  • Apple Music app plays them in random order per my settings.
  • Apple Music app uses the song volume and equalizer settings I set up in each songs Info screen under Options when playing them through the speakers in my MBP

The bad:

  • Apple Music app completely ignores the volume and equalizer settings when streaming to my HomePods
  • I used Mp3Gain to normalize all the music, which it did but the Apple Music app ignores the loudness tags when streaming to my HomePods but does in fact use the tags when playing direct from my NAS to my MBP speakers

This forces me to physically go to the HomePods or my phone or to the MBP to lower the volume of certain songs or increase the volume of certain songs, one by one which is a total PITA and almost impossible when having company over. With thousands of songs, the last thing I want to do is run them one by one through a program like Audacity to level the volumes when Apple Music already has that setting built in.

Am I missing something? Why does Apple Music ignore these settings when streaming to their own HomePods? Is there a simple solution?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.5
