Here's the scam, and search engines are very complicit:
Search engines offer "first viewed" high ad placement for a fee to fund their business. Search engines are NOT philanthropic public service sites. They are for-profit.
As a result, "support" sites that are spoofing a manufacturer can pay a search engine to show as hits and phone numbers you see first. If you call, they typically ask for remote access to your device, and may ask for payment with gift cards or "alternative" currency types.
It is not just computer support where thses scammer dwell. I searched for support for Kenmore appliances and the first three hits were NOT Kenmore but, from the web addresses, I suspect scammers who paid for high placement.
Search engines are no longer 100% safe places for novice users who blindly assume that engines are on their side.
If you gave the people you called credit card or bank account numbers, notify your financial institutions NOW of a potential breach and ask for a new account number
