Found lost MacBook Air and want to return to the owner

All the more reason to turn it in quickly – in case the owner is on vacation and has only a limited amount of time to check lost & fund departments, and police departments.

Find http://www.apple.com/buy Apple reseller. If the owner registered their address, there is a chance they could get it back to the rightful owner. But generally the police is the best location if there is no lost and found facility where it was found.

They have no way to "trace" the owner. No positive identification is required to create an Apple Account and it is locked to that account, not necessarily the person who bought the device. Apple has no indication of the Apple Account other than the redacted email you see on the screen where it requests the Password to unlock. The good news is that the owner of the account it is locked to can still track the device, so they would be able to pick it up there.

There is no way for you to find out the owner's contact information.

Apple is not in the lost and found business and will/can not trace the owner.
