I have an old Zoom USB Faxmodem, not the Zoom videoconferencing app.
I was able to use it on my prior macbook pro several MACOSX generations ago.
Now I would like to be able to use it again on my Macbook Air M2 with Sonoma.
Anyone using a USB faxmodem over a plain old telephone (POT) line on a modern macbook with Apple silicon running Sonoma or the next gen OSX?
I was able to turn on the CUPS server in the Terminal app that I think is needed.
I doubt I will be able to copy any prior software from prior intel systems into the later OSX for Apple silicon to get a USB fax modem to function.
As a result, I can now add a CUPS-PDF printer but it needs a proper print driver for a fax USB modem.
Good luck with that. Apple removed support for fax modems in macOS years ago. Finding a driver for a long defunct product like that Zoom device that will function on Apple Silicon seems like a daydream in my opinion. Not even Apple’s old fax modem works anymore on macOS and I have one sitting a drawer.
A quick search shows no fax modems that work with any version of macOS after Monterey (macOS 12) when support was removed by Apple.
I have an old Apple USB fax modem as well. It actually was just an interface as most of the modem capability was in software. The Zoom USB fax modem was a true fax modem. I had it working with Intel macs for quite some time. I would have thought, Apple could have easily copied the intel x86 source code for the driver and updated to Mac Silicon.

What is this for?
If it is for faxes, there are better options, such as eFax or other online fax services. Or you can get a multi-function printer that has a built in fax capability when connected to a phone line.
But the fax modem devices themselves have not worked with Macs for many years.
If you want to use a dial up modem to get online, as I said, those devices are no longer supported. You would do better with using a cell phone as a hot spot.
Apple has a history of dropping support for legacy technologies faster than other manufacturers. Nobody uses SCSI anymore, Firewire has been surpassed by Thunderbolt, etc.
