1. Enough to be trusted for removal.

2. Avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store and the developer websites. The free version of MalwareBytes just removes it and shouldn't be treated as a method to stop it from getting onto systems.

Only the paid version of Malwarebytes provides for routine scanning. I used it for years without issues but decided to remove it as built-in protection in macOS has gotten very robust. FWIW in all the years I used it never once did it detect anything... nothing, probably because I’m very focused on where and what I click on. Remember, the weakest point of security on a Mac is between the ears of the user sitting in front of it.
