Is there a way to reduce 25GB preboot folder size in Macintosh HD/System/Volumes?

Iv'e been cleaning my personal 2022 M2 MBP running Sequoia 15.5 (24F74) and iv'e found a massive preboot folder (25GB) in the Macintosh HD/System/Volumes file path. Iv'e seen in my older Macs some 2GB-5GB sized preboot folder; ¿Is this 25GB size normal? ¿Is there a way to reduce the folder size rather than factory reseting the laptop?.

Your method shows 7.1 GB, which is more reasonable, but do you know why daisy disk makes that space calculation?

If that app is trying to read the file sizes and add them up, then it’s probably going to be wrong. Modern Apple file systems are highly optimized and the values reported for file sizes are almost never accurate. It’s not that they’re wrong, per se. It’s just that there are many different ways to measure the size of a file that might be hard linked, cloned, partially cloned, sparse, and/or compressed. And all that is in addition to the two traditional ways to measure a file’s size.

Well... yes, I guess. I've found information, not solutions, but they are quite enough for me.

Thanks for your follow up.

I can not speak to your third party application "daisy disk."

Solutions to what exactly...(?)

Your output seems consistent with what was posted above:

etresoft posted a good summation and insight.
