The Text is a scam. Your Apple Pay was not used any where and all you need to do is delete the message. Many people have received that exact same message.

In any case, you would NEVER click a link or call a number from an email/message to provide personal information.

To answer your questions, yes Apple Pay is completely separate from the card you have on file for Apple purchases. Apple Pay is available for the cards that you have stored in the Wallet app.

I would not let that scam message stop you from using Apple Pay as that is far more secure than handing over your Account details to a retailer, whether that is by giving them your card or inserting it in a terminal that could have a skimmer/shimmer installed to read your card details. Apple Pay uses a unique token provided by your bank that is securely transmitted to the retailer where they do not even have the account number of your card.

Similarly I receive scam messages claiming a FedEx package I had ordered could not be delivered and wanting my personal information. That scam message would not deter me from using FedEx to ship a package. The scams I get claiming I have a toll balance and they are going to take my license away, certainly does not prevent me from driving.
