Please Help. How do I permanently change the default app for opening PDFs from TextEdit to Preview on my Mac?

Hello.

Even though I right-click a PDF, go to "Get Info," and change the "Open with" to Preview (then click "Change All"), new PDF downloads still open in TextEdit. I also get this error:

“There is an error while changing the application that opens because not enough information is available.”

Did I accidentally delete something important? Please help — I need my PDFs to open in Preview automatically like they used to. 🙏

Did you by chance use some "cleaner" app which often corrupt the system? Also 3rd party virus apps might do the same and should be avoided, macOS built-in security is all that is needed.

Try if it works in safe mode or after a detour to safe mode.
