Lost all calendar events on iPhone after iOS 18.5 update

I Updated my iPhone to 18.5 and my calendar events are completely gone. I have tried everything and contacted Apple multiple times. Right now, I am currently using an old device to see if I can use an older iCloud backup to get the events back. I tried one backup, and it didn’t work, so I am working on another older backup to see if that will work. If not, then I have no other options. There was no restore backup on iCloud.com for the calendar either; it seemed to have deleted as well. There was definitely a glitch in their recent update, as I have checked on Reddit, and Apple said a lot of users are contacting them about this. I use my calendar for everything, and it’s all gone.

The Apple update 18.5 deleted the “In my phone” iCloud calendar completely the only events that were still there were my email calendar events. The restore on iCloud.com was also deleted. I haven’t had any issues with my calendar until this update it deleted 3 years worth of events.

I used an old iPhone device I had and downloaded an older version of my saved iCloud backup at setup from 6-12-25 which was before the update and I successfully got the calendar events back up. I then had to go through every single day and save each event to my email calendar instead of iCloud so now I have all my events on my current device.

I just had the same issue today, the calendar events just went missing suddenly, only difference that i didnt make an update

Try to go to App Store > Calendar, if it shows the cloud logo, click it, download and Open. This works for me, because I think somehow it offloaded itself without me knowing.

Frustrated for few hours because of this issue!! Apple definitely need to do something about this

If you were truly syncing your calendar to icloud and not an email account then you would recover by doing this Restore your calendars and events on iCloud.com - Apple Support

Since calendar are synced it's not part of the backup What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support

I had the same issue after updating to IOS 18.5. Whether it’s actually this update, or the deprecation of iTunes (which I always successfully used to sync my Outlook calendars to iPhone/iPad) isn’t entirely clear. Apple have been nothing short of hopeless in “supporting” people.

Here’s what I think has happened to me, and forgive me as I’m no expert. So, I downloaded iCloud for windows. It told me I would sync (“sync” being the important part) my outlook calendars with iCloud, as well as my contacts. The contacts were synced, but the Outlook calendars were wiped clean. 16 years of diaries gone in an instant. Unfortunately, my backup from Outlook calendars were backed up to Windows One Drive. So, when iCloud wiped the calendars, the .pst file for the backup on One Drive was automatically updated to wipe that too.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a stand-alone backup of the .pst file done recently, and had to revert to the last one I had for December 2024. I’ve managed to rebuild some of my diaries, but it’s a nightmare. I haven’t had the guts to try it again. If the so-called support from Apple senior team so far is anything to go by, it doesn’t inspire confidence. But there surely must be a way to synchronise data between devices and platforms that doesn’t risk losing valuable information we all depend on.

I’m going to reach out to Apple again tomorrow to see if they’ll walk me through an idiot-proof sync, but I’m not holding my breath waiting for success. One thing’s for sure, I’ll have several backups of the .pst file on several stand-alone drives before I do anything!

Any other ideas or comments welcomed.

Same thing happened to me. I sync my calendar to my iCloud, yet when I tried to restore an older backup, it didn’t show any. This happened to me several years ago as well. I freaking hate apple right now!! They need to stop rushing all these updates.

Sorry syncing to icloud and restoring from icloud backup are two different things.

You sync icloud data to the cloud therefore it isn't part of the icloud backup.

If you followed that link I gave to the OP and if you truly were syncing to the cloud it would restore it for you.

Correct. Syncing to iCloud and restoring from iCloud backup are two different things. You can still sync your calendar and reminders to the iCloud (to share across different devices using the same iCloud account) and also still have the option to restore your phone from an older backup with all of that synced calendar and reminder information included in those older backups. My older backups are gone. I didn’t delete them, yet they are all gone.

It appears it’s deleted mine too, although initially I didn’t put the two together, but I’ve done the update recently (automatically) went to check my calendar today and notice past events are missing.

I’ve tried a few things after reading some guides on here, but alas it hasn’t worked.

I’ve tried searching to see if just not showing but still on iCloud but isn’t finding anything

I have also updated to 18.5 and noticed all my events that I have catalogued in my calendar have all gone! I have also followed the information online to try to get them back. I have also looked on iCloud to restore but they are all gone from there too, just like others have experienced.

This has all my appointments on there! How else can I get these back as I cannot possibly remember everything that was in there (which is the whole idea of a calendar)!!!

Me too!!! At first I thought my daughter somehow cleared everything but it appears this has happened to lots of people and recently. I just noticed mine within the last week. All events gone. I’ve done all the troubleshooting and contacted Apple. I have a callback with them tomorrow morning so hopefully I get help. Soooo freaking annoyed. 😑

I have repeatedly been trying to respond but the system just kept sending me back to sign in. I’m trying again in the hope it gets posted. Apple still don’t have a solution. Arranged another call back for yesterday at 3.30 and they didn’t call. They clearly want to ignore people affected by this massive mess. If this gets posted, I’ll then set out the workaround I’ve managed to put together myself, but a separate backup is essential for this.
