WhatsApp on iPhone no longer announces contact names in AirPods

It used to be that when I got a WhatsApp message while wearing my AirPods, Siri would say something like: “John Doe sent you a message: ‘Hey, are we still meeting later?’” Now, it just says: “Someone said: ‘Hey, are we still meeting later?’” So it still reads the message out loud, but no longer tells me who it’s from. That’s kind of frustrating, especially when you’re expecting messages from multiple people.

I deleted what’s app and reinstalled. it worked for a while but has now stopped working again. Siri will also not read messages out on CarPlay anymore which I think is a related issue.

Have you tried to restart your iPhone to see if the issues persist? This might have something to do with whatsapp settings

yep, restarted it but still the same. there is a thread on reddit with the same discussion but noone has an answer. The general thinking is that its a whatsapp update problem but no solution.
