How do I decline spam Calendar invitations without sending a response on my MacBook Air?

I sometimes get unsolicited (spam) emails with calendar invitations that end up in the Calendar application. If I decline or delete the invitation, it always sends a response to the sender, which I obviously do not want. How do I get rid of these without sending a response?
