Logic pro 11.2 has become unable - crashing any time I enable / disable a plugin

I am opening various projects and whenever I "play" my project and try to enable/disable any plugins there is an instant crash. According to chatgpt it has to do with the MAAudioEngine and seems to be pointless in figuring out whats causing it.

I have ran brand new projects and started fresh and cannot seem to get it to crash. I cannot seem to point to any particular plugsin because if I run logic by disabling audio units and only running "logic stock" plugins, the issue still occurs.

The only update I noticed I had made was to my arturia products (third party) which I updated some. Mind you none of the projects I am testing crashes on are even RUNNING those plugins. This literally has happened out of nowhere! I cannot figure it out. I tried resintalling logic and everything. What else can I do...I would love to try and rollback a version of logic but i do not run timemachine so I am at a loss. I work as an audio engineer professionally I am at a point where I am loosing money now. I've never had this kind of issue happen at random that is permanently destroyed ALL logic projects.

I am running m4 on sequoia 15.5

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.5

I actually have a small update (which I have supplied to apple support).

It seems to have to do with my external monitor setup.

It appears that any project that I had started/worked on when in my studio on my external monitor setup; once I open and work on that same project but on my laptop only (14" screen); this is when the crashes occur.

If I start a project on the laptop screen and never open it with the logic window size changed/suing my external monitor; crashes never occur!

What actually upsets me more than the bug at this point; is the first response of inquiry from Apple support was not to provide previous versions of Logic for download. We pay for a professional software and access to that software. We are NOT FORCED to upgrade yet we are locked away/stopped from regression testing in cases like this.

This concept of not providing professionals previous versions of professional software is ridiculous. I would happily pay more for a truly professional level of access to my tool set. My career/livlihood depends on this.

This seems to be a prevalent issue with 11.2. Best thing you can do is:

Submit Feedback to Apple:

Report your issues to Apple. Fixes may not be implemented until they are reported. These forums are user-to-user platforms, and Apple’s involvement is limited to their own schedule. While Apple may not respond directly, the more feedback received, the better understanding they gain of existing issues and potential updates for future versions. Without reporting your concerns, Apple will not be aware of them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - Logic Pro - Apple
  2. Feedback Type: “Broken feature/Report a problem”
  3. Comment: Please provide a detailed description of the issue you encountered and the troubleshooting steps you have attempted thus far. Include the URL of this thread for reference.

Also, if you can roll back to the previous version that would be ideal. Did you save a copy of it? It is a good practice to take on.

Unless you know someone who has a copy or you backed it up yourself, you will not be able to roll back easily.

You need the correct OS to download a specific version of Logic Pro. This thread covers it well:

Have you tried disabling your internet connexion before starting Logic Pro?
That's the only way I've been able to run my projects so far...

This points to an issue with one or more third-party plugins as Logic doesn't require an internet connection.

Learn to use modifier keys when looking for the culprit:

You can also look-up utilities > console app > crash reports

I didnt save a previous version. I actually tried renaming and moving it etc and that seems to do NOTHING in terms of “creating another version”.

ill file a bug per ur recommendation.

why do they not have previous versions available. They used to offer previous versions via purchase history. I really hope they can make an exception for those of us literally loosing our livelihood.

Incredibly helpful and unreal. I cannot believe an external monitor can cause such a riot.

Side note: I back up every version just and always stay one version behind so I can maintain session stability in my studio. I think the reason you were not able to save a retitled version of Logic Pro is because your Logic Pro app was open at the time.

Next time, quit Logic Pro and duplicate Logic app and you should be able to name and back up accordingly. After that, you can update. If anything goes haywire, you can just use the old app.

Nope I beat my head against wall trying to figure it out (saving a new version of logic); Logic was never open and always overwrites it self/knows where the app is living in the current version (wether I move it/rename it etc..). They must have changed something that is trying to stop you from keeping previous versions (again my complaint about a hobbiest--make it easy--mindset vs. a true professional support path). I only have one version because I didn't archive older versions; so maybe well see a change once an upgrade is available. really frustrating.
