Folders on my Mac are automatically getting deleted and sent to bin

Hi

I am using Macbook air. I have noticed that folder on my desktop are being automatically deleted and placed into thrash/bin. This is very scary as some important folder also got deleted about my research paper.

What is solution for it?

Can't say I ever heard this before...

old issue, new issue, what changed?

Are you using Desktop and Documents in iCloud Drive?

All Folder/files or some specific Folder/file associated with what applications?

I would turn off Stage Manager to test—so you are always seeing your Desktop folders...(?) until a cause is discovered and some resolve to the issue.

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

The current stable release of Sequoia including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 15.5 —I would start there

do you have adequate backups in place(?)

If you value your user data

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.

More than one device, more than one backup methodology.
