Apple Mail Account Error: Gmail -- Cannot Get Mail
About a month ago, I started to get an Account Error for my primary Gmail account in the Apple Mail app on my iPhone. I have three Gmail Mail accounts added on my iPhone and do not have any issues with the two other accounts. I have always used Apple Mail on my iPhone with my Gmail for 10+ years with no issues.
The Error I see:
Cannot Get Mail
The mail server “imap.gmail.com” is not responding. Verify you have entered the correct account info into Mail settings.
I originally tried the following fixes (multiple times and in different orders) and my email worked for two or so weeks but the error is back. I cannot get my emails in my Apple Mail app. I am very frustrated as the error is back after a temporary fix and I'm not sure why it started working before and now does not. What is the problem and how can I fix this permanently? I have tried to find solutions online and none have helped me to resolve my problem
- Delete the account and re-add Gmail Mail Account - have tried this multiple times. It worked after a couple of times a couple of weeks ago, but now the error is back.
- Update iOS - my iOS is updated to 18.5
- Internet – I get the same error while on wifi and without (using Cellular Data)
- Restart App/Device – I have done both many times
- Verify IMAP Settings – I am using the correct settings: IMAP server (imap.gmail.com), port 993, and SSL enabled. These match my other two Gmail Mail Account settings on my iPhone.
- IMAP in Gmail is Enabled and it is working as I can access Gmail via web browser and in the Gmail iPhone app
- Password – I changed my password a month ago and that hasn't fixed/changed anything.
- Update or Reinstall – Ensure your email client is up to date.
Thank you so much for all your help.
