What I’d try in this situation:

— close safari (cmd+q)

— force quit safari (Apple Menu -> force quit)

— restart your MacBook

— check for Safari and/or macOS updates

— try to disable adblockers?

overall, it is very unfortunate, but Safari seems to be in a worrying state on Mac, as quite some people are complaining about similar issues, and mainly have now switched their browser. Please consider filing a bug report to apple, as these issues are not present on iOS or iPadOS and generally not justifiable. File your report here: Feedback - Safari - Apple
