Apple Watch Series 7 reminders do not sync with iPhone

I have been struggling with this issue since I upgraded my iPhone to the 16 in December 2024 and I have just about had it with missing VERY important reminders. I have had the Apple Watch series 7 since 2021 (do not remember month of purchase) and I had no problem with ANY syncing between the Watch and my previous iPhone (12 Mini). Since the upgrade to iPhone 16, I have not been able to get the Watch to sync properly with my reminders. I even cleared them all out of my iPhone and remade them, double checking that when they were deleted from my phone they were also deleted from the Watch, and when I manually added them all back from my phone, I checked that they were there on the Watch. Here's a few examples of what I'm experiencing:

  1. My Watch will send me a notification when a Reminder goes off. I can see it appear on my iPhone as well as my Apple Watch. No matter what I mark the reminder on my Watch, it does not sync to my iPhone. The reminder stays active on the phone, and vice versa. If I mark it completed on my iPhone, it's still there on my Watch. If I choose to "reminder me in an hour" on my iPhone, I likely will not get that notification in an hour.
  2. If I add a reminder on my Watch through Siri, I never receive a notification at the time I asked it to remind me. I remembered myself and said, oh Siri not register it? Lo and behold, I do indeed have a notification on my Watch, there's that reminder I set god knows how long ago.
  3. I could mark a Reminder complete on my iPhone or my Watch, doesn't matter, a day later that same reminder will come back up on my Watch with its original time stamp (come to think of it, this happens with other applications... see the end of the post for this example).
  4. PERFECT EXAMPLE THAT LITERALLY JUST HAPPENED TO ME: I had a reminder set for 4:00pm today. I noticed it earlier, decided to wanted to change the date to tomorrow. So I did that on my iPhone. I JUST GOT THAT SAME REMINDER ON MY WATCH.

I have no idea how no one else is reporting this issue, like I said it has been going on for at least 6 months now, and I don't know what to do. I am up to date on software updates on both devices, I even look forward to them to see if this issue will ever get corrected. The notifications settings for Reminders on the Watch app on my iPhone is set to "Mirror my iPhone," so what is happening?

This is the amazing thing about the technology we have, it enhances and improves our lives. I got so used to having something enhance my life that I thought was so simple. My Apple Watch is 4 years old. If you're going to tell me I need to upgrade devices, Apple, you need to get your "you know what" together because there is NO WAY that can be true with the power of technology these days. A 10 year old device, I'll give you that. But not 4 years.

Thanks for reading my novel. I REALLY hope someone will be able to help me with this issue.

Point 3 additional example: I just noticed in my notification center on my Watch from an app I use called AnyList. Earlier today, I used my Alexa to add something to a list via that app. When that happens, AnyList sends me a notification on my Watch that something has changed. Moments ago, I checked my notifications, and there was the same AnyList notification from 9:56am (it was timestamped). I can guarantee, even 30 minutes ago, that notification was absolutely not there on my Watch.

Hi. Was having the same issue. Everything had been working so well for years and yet just these past few months I've had this same sync problem. After reading your post I did a simple thing. In the Watch app on iPhone, in Notifications > Calendar, I checked "Custom" instead of Mirror my iPhone, then checked back to Mirror my iPhone. (So basically like turning it off and then back on). Suddenly events now showing on my Apple Watch (also series 7 BTW). I'll have to wait and see if this is a real fix or just a temp fix.

The first response above from Kilgore-Trout seems to have solved the problem for me. I did a completely fresh pair, I didn't do it from backup because I didnt want whatever caused the problem in the first place to carry over. I wish I did give it a try though, because I had to recreate all of my preferences all over again which was a pain.
