Excel multiple clicking not allow cell editing

In Excel a double click on an unselected cell opens a cell for cell editing, another double click then selects all the text in that cell (great if I want to quickly change the cell contents).

In Excel Windows this means a quadrouple click quickly opened and selects all text in that cell.

In Excel Mac it exits cell editing and then no matter how many times I keep clicking it refuses to enter cell editing mode.

It will work if I double click, wait a few seconds and double click again but this is extremely inefficient when I have to edit a lot of cells.

How do I fix this behavior so a quadruple click will work properly?
