Siri doesn't read content of new Whatsapp messages

I had been using WhatsApp with Siri for a long time without any problems, that worked perfectly. Now I have a new cell phone (iPhone 15) and updates from iOS and WhatsApp (including privacy messages, etc.). When I ask Siri to read new messages, it detects them (“There are x new messages in Y groups”), but the content is not read aloud. Instead, I immediately get “Would you like to reply?”

When my phone is upside down on a table, I do get the content read aloud immediately when a message arrives (but not on request): “Someone says: [message content].”

Note: everything still works normal for text messages via SMS. Is this a privacy setting that I need to change if I just want to ask for messages to be read aloud again? Any suggestions? Thank in advance!

This is due to latest version of WhatsApp and also affects CarPlay

This is nothing to do with any iPhone or iOS upgrades. It’s 100% a WhatsApp issue. I’ve confirmed this via a chat with WhatsApp. Their latest updates have broken compatibility with Siri.

I was told at the start of June it should be fixed with their next app update but that came and went last week and the issue still isn’t fixed.

My advice is to keep badgering WhatsApp via the chat function in the app. They’ll sort it out eventually, I’m sure.

Hi. Exactly the same thing happening. Never happened before and Siri doesn't read the message itself and goes straight to asking if you want to reply. Hopefully someone can help. Have offloaded app and done all sorts. Siri can read regular texts, so definitely to do with WhatsApp.
