My MacBook Pro screen vanished suddenly

i was using my laptop and the screen vanished suddenly. the apple CS said to revive it so i took it to a authorised apple service center. they quoted me 50k instantly saying the screen needs to be replaced. i’ve barely had my laptop for 2 years and it gives up. it hasn’t fallen no liquid detected apparently its a hardware but that’s all i know.

You can usually work-around a failed display by connecting an external display or TV set.

if you get ANY stable picture at all (including just 'wallpaper" pattern) the external display is working and just some parameters need to be changed to make the external display the Primary display.

the 50K quoted price is in what currency? Indian Rupees? if so, that's about US$500.

what model-year Mac and what screen size?

Because of the way the Mac detects displays, you have to connect the Mac LAST to get the external display to light up.

The Mac does not rely on Windows-like side-loaded "Drivers" which are actually packages of resolutions and settings for a specific display. Instead, it goes straight to the immutable source -- it asks the display itself.

To get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display. "No signal detected" is generated by the DISPLAY, not by the Mac.

This query is only sent at certain times:

• at startup

• at wake from sleep — so momentarily sleeping and waking your Mac may work

• at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go

• hold the Option key while you click on the (Detect Display) button that will appear in Displays preferences (from another display)

Earlier, I went to an authorized service center that was recommended to me by Apple Support. They quickly quoted me ₹52,000 just to replace the screen, without giving a proper breakdown of what exactly was wrong.

I was also on calls with Apple Support for three days, but was told that nothing could be done since my laptop is out of warranty.

At this point, I’m considering going to an Apple Store to get a second opinion before moving ahead with a screen replacement. I want to be sure it’s the right fix before making such a big payment.
