How can I permanently lock default microphone to internal mic on my MacBook Pro?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to configure my MacBook so that the internal microphone always remains the default input, no matter what other devices I connect—AirPods, external mics, etc.

Currently, macOS automatically switches the microphone input whenever a new audio device is connected. I understand this is intended for convenience, but I want the internal mic to always stay selected by default unless I manually change it.

This is important for my workflow where I connect/disconnect Bluetooth and USB devices frequently, but I always want the Mac’s own microphone to be used for audio input—especially for calls and recordings.

Is there any hidden setting, Terminal command, or workaround to force macOS to always stick with the internal mic? If not, I’d like to request this as a feature enhancement in a future update.

Thanks!
