Can I retrieve lost iCloud mail after paying for storage?

i hadn’t paid my storage subscription for a couple of months meaning I wasn’t receiving my iCloud mail, and now that I’ve paid it, I’m wondering if there’s a way to receive the mail I didn’t get whilst my storage is full or is it lost for good? I’ve had a nosey round in my settings and backed up my phone but I’m not sure if I can actually get it back

✉️ When iCloud Storage Is Full: What Happens to Mail?

  • When your iCloud storage is full:
    • iCloud Mail stops receiving new messages — any incoming email gets bounced back to the sender with a delivery error.
    • You won’t see these emails at all — they never reach your inbox or any server-side queue.

If you're expecting anything critical:

  • Reach out and ask them to resend the email now that your storage is active again.

2. Check Your Other Folders (just in case):

  • Inbox
  • Junk
  • Archive
  • Rules/Filters (if any were set up)

Sometimes mail clients or third-party apps (like Outlook or Mail on Mac) may have cached a copy if they were connected during that time — unlikely, but worth a glance.

3. Set Up Forwarding for the Future

To avoid losing email in the future if iCloud fills up again:
