It’s been about four months since I cracked the screen on my 2019 MacBook Pro. I took it to the Apple Store, and they told me they’d have to send it in for repairs. They estimated it would cost around $700 and take about three weeks. They did mention a few authorized repair places that might be faster, but I wasn’t sure if it would be worth the hassle or much cheaper.

At that point, I figured I might as well put the money toward a new computer instead.

Does that sound reasonable to you? I’d love to know what others have paid or experienced with similar repairs.

We are not Apple but rather your fellow end users and cannot quote costs, which vary with the Macbook Pro's sub-model, screen size, and your location in the world.

What we do know is that, in all Macbook Pros with Retina displays, the upper unit holding the display is one sealed assembly. Damage to any single part requires an entire new assembly. Individual components of the display cannot be separately replaced. That is the reason for the high cost. Other posts regarding what that service cost them say parts + labor start about US$550 and go up for larger screen sizes.

Again. you cannot get an official repair quote here. I second the idea of putting that money toward a new computer instead of repairing this one which, unless it is a 16-inch model, will not be receiving new OS upgrades this fall.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and informative reply. I completely understand that this isn’t the place for official quotes, and I appreciate the reminder. I really just wanted to share what I had done in my own situation, in case it might help someone else facing a similar decision. When my MacBook Pro screen was damaged, I ended up choosing not to repair it and instead invested in a new 16-inch MacBook Pro. Your explanation about the sealed Retina display assembly helped clarify why repairs are so costly, and your suggestion about considering a new device really resonated with me—especially since my older model wouldn’t be eligible for future macOS upgrades anyway.

I just wanted to say I appreciated your insights—they were helpful and spot on. Thanks again for contributing to such a supportive community.
