How do I reduce system data storage on MacBook Air early 2015

I've recently inherited a MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2015) and noted that the system data storage is c30GB about a quarter of the total storage (c120GB) is there a way to reduce this down (and keep it in check going forward) without compromising performance etc ?

Appreciate what you can advise - fyi I'm not overly 'techie' but can manage the more straightforward simple tasks

Many thanks in advance

It appears the computer may not have been properly prepared before you too Ownership

So, this will fall to you to perform this

What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support (CA)

As for a MBA with a 128 GB drive

You will be hard pressed to much more than web surfing, emails and some light word processing / spread sheets

The Operating System itself may occupy upwards of 12 GB

Then, any third party application you install, well that depends on what they are

They could use an additional xx GBs leaving only some limited space for storage etc

Not sure if this reply goes to yiu Owl-53 (thanks for the info btw) - Q:is there a way to increase the memory / storage on an MBA 11” (early 2015)? Tbf I’m probably only going to use it surf and pick up emails etc whilst travelling

In-light of what I have found

For those purposes just do mot bother with the upGrades

Though, you may consider a Battery Replacement unless it has already been done previously

10 year old machine would me a 10 year old battery.

Finding in regards to RAM and SSD upgrades

4 GB of RAM is onboard. It could be upgraded at the initial time of purchase to 8 GB as a US$100 option, but it cannot be upgraded later.

This custom configuration processor option for the MJVM2LL/A and MJVP2LL/A configurations are equipped by default with 128 GB or 256 GB of flash storage, respectively. The higher-end MJVP2LL/A configuration also could be equipped with 512 GB of storage at the time of purchase for an additional US$300.

Apple does not intend for one to upgrade the storage after purchase, but it is quite possible.

In the US (and many other countries), Other World Computing sells storage upgrades for this MacBook Air.

In the UK, Flexx sells internal storage upgrades for this MacBook Air.
