How do I create a custom phrase to view fonts in Font Book?

I gather I'm supposed to be able to click in the existing phrase (in this case, it's the default "quick brown fox" one) & type in a different phrase.

But, when I click into the text, it looks like it's highlighted, ready to be changed, but as soon as I type a letter, the font library moves to the first font that begins with that letter.

Is this a known bug or am I doing something wrong?

Click on the icon with the little squares to change the view to icon view.

Double click on any font, to open it, then click on the rectangles icon to change it the phrase view. Double click on the phrase and edit it to say whatever you want. Once you are done editing, hit enter, and then click on the < arrow at the top to return to the font view. Then click rectangles icon again to see your custom phrase applied on all fonts.
