Most recent update of Chrome going blank and flashing, becomes unusable

Is there a way to go back to the most-recent-previous version of Chrome? The only thing I'm finding wants me to go back to a very old version of Chrome, not a more recent one.

I have a 14" 2023 Macbook Pro (M2) running Sequoia 15.5. I updated Google Chrome to the latest version [Version 137.0.7151.69 (Official Build) (arm64)], and it has been glitchy - sometimes flashing, sometimes the whole tab bar goes white, or the screen does. If I have more than one window of tabs open, sometimes I can't get the "resting" one to come back to life. The glitching happens most often when I'm tutoring with a tutoring company through their interface. They require us to use Chrome as it is the only browser they will support, so I can't use something else to fix the problem. Their IT department says no one else has reported this and they can't help me. The only thing that fixes it is quitting Chrome and then opening it again - really not sustainable, and I've had to do that four or five times over the course of two hours.

The people who are answering your questions here are NOT Apple employees. They are other users, who Volunteer their time and energy to help you in whatever way they can.

Sometimes you might get information that is tangential to you wanted to know, or WAY more information than you wanted.

PLEASE try to be gracious in your responses. If you got more than you wanted to hear, Please do not assault the person who gave you tangential or ‘too much' information. Instead, understand that they were TRYING to be helpful, even if their answer did not line up perfectly with your query.

Just ignore the overage and get on with solving your problems, and count your blessings that someone was willing to help, even if the answer was "too much" or “way off base”.

If important parts of your question did not get answered, just ask a more pointed question and Readers will try again.

it does not seem like other users can identify with your technical issues, and none have come forward with work-arounds.

Chrome is by far the most resource-intensive App normally seen on the Mac that is not blatantly malware.

Perhaps the way to proceed is to check for mitigating factors, such as gross hardware failures or complex software interactions.

To check for gross hardware failure, run the Diagnostic:

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

Remember that in the very brief time it runs, and the limited tests it uses, "No faults found' is a far cry from "all is well"

Consider downloading and running this little "discovery" utility, Etrecheck. It changes NOTHING. Etrecheck was developed by a senior contributor here, and uses mostly system calls and simple tests to collect often-needed information.

it contains little tests for speeds of devices, CPU utilization, memory usage, energy usage and a digest of recent problems, in one easy to use package. it does not even need to be Installed. Because less can be learned when your Mac is running great, best time to run is when your problems are actually occurring, if possible.

if you follow the directions faithfully, its report (pre-laundered of all personally-identifiable information) can be "Shared" to the System ClipBoard, then Pasted into an ‘Additional Text’ window in a reply on the forums.

Use Etrecheck Pro for free:

Then start a reply on the forums, click the 'additional Text' icon, and PASTE

I don't work in the kind of job where the company provides work computers, and I do have to use Chrome. If I ever have another tech issue, they are going to ask me what browser I'm using, and troubleshoot for that browser. So I will continue to use Chrome, and if you have a suggestion that answers my question, I'll be thrilled to hear it.

Nothing you posted is difficult to understand; it's just not answering my question.

My question isn't about buying anything, and I can't afford to anyway, and the company I work for won't. My question is the first two lines of my post:

"Is there a way to go back to the most-recent-previous version of Chrome? The only thing I'm finding wants me to go back to a very old version of Chrome, not a more recent one."

If you have an answer to that, please share it. If not, Please stop posting answers to questions I didn't ask.

You would need to ask Google. This site is for Apple product support, and Chrome is not an Apple product.

My only question is "Is there a way to install a previous version of Chrome on a Macbook." The answer I got was "buy a Chromebook and BTW Chrome sucks don't use Chrome." I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that people respond with an answer to the question that was posted.

"count your blessings that someone was willing to help"

But I didn't get help. I asked a yes/no question, and the response was "You should spend money on a whole other computer," and then when I made the reasonable request that answers to my question should please be answers to my question and not to some other question I'm not asking, I was told I was WRONG to use Chrome and it's BAD to do it. I can't help what my job requires, and it requires Chrome. Hence the question. A really simple one. And then I was insulted with "None of that should be difficult to understand." Yes, thank you, I understood it completely; I'm not stupid. But it wasn't an answer to my question.

"Please do not assault" Please indicate where I "assaulted" anyone. That's a really loaded word to apply to this discussion.

Yes, but people who have Macbooks are the right people to ask about whether it's possible to install an earlier version of a browser on their Macbook, no? Chances are someone here has had this problem with their Macbook and might have a solution -- that's why I'm asking here.

The gracious way to respond is to simply ignore the overage, and ask a more pointed question.

There are MANY more readers than responders on these forums. just look at the number of views as opposed to the number of responses. Readers generally respond when they have something substantial to add to the discussion.
