You don't log in directly.

Despite what TheLittles says, private relay.appleid.com is an actual Apple-owned domain.

However, it's not something you log into directly.

When using Private Relay (System Settings -> Apple Account -> Private Relay), certain traffic from your machine is sent to Apple whereby they anonymize the connection and forward it to the destination site - the remote site sees the relay server's address as the source of the request, not your actual IP address.

It only applies to certain traffic from Safari, so it's not an absolute form of protection, but if you want/need to hide your IP address from web sites you visit then it can be useful.

Either way, it's toggled on or off via System Settings. There is no direct login required. I'm not sure how this relates to you email question. Where are you seeing the privaterelay address?

No worries. I actually blame Apple for this, at least in part. For years we've been trying to guide people towards trusting data from '*.apple.com' and being skeptical over anything else, then they pull this one on us :)

It almost made sense when iCloud accounts were labelled AppleID but now they've rebranded again to 'Apple Account' and are deprecating the AppleID name. Can't win lol!

Phishing:

Shows we should all be cautious of phishing —even Apple😊. What looks the same isn’t —it’s just another spelling —and sometimes wise guys use variants and homophones to get you to fall for it. I dare not type these in the address bar, as phishy things can come about. So, I’ll keep a better eye on those spellings. Thanks for catching that.
