Persistent Error 0x104 in Microsoft Windows App for Mac—Local Network Connection Issue on macOS 15.4.1

I am reaching out regarding a persistent issue with the Microsoft Windows App on my Mac running macOS 15.4.1. Despite following all recommended troubleshooting steps, the application continues to return error code 0x104 and cannot connect to remote computers over the local network.

Details:

macOS Version: 15.4.1

Application: Microsoft Windows App (latest version from the App Store)

Error:

  • Error code: 0x104 — The app cannot connect to a remote computer over the local network. The error message states that the remote PC cannot be found, even when using the correct IP address.

Key Observations:

  • The issue only occurs when connecting over the local network.

  • The connection works correctly when using a mobile network or VPN.
  • The issue is user-specific: when I log in as another user on the same Mac, the Windows App connects to the remote computer over the local network without issues.
  • All permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network are enabled for the Windows App. Toggling these settings (off/on) does not resolve the problem.
  • I have performed a complete reset of the Windows App, including deleting all related files in ~/Library/Preferences, ~/Library/Application Support, and ~/Library/Containers, followed by a clean reinstallation. The error persists.
  • Disabling the macOS firewall does not resolve the issue.
  • No third-party security or network software is installed.
  • Other applications with similar network permissions work as expected.
  • The problem does not appear to be related to DNS resolution or remote desktop server configuration, as connections succeed under other network conditions and user accounts.

Summary:

The error appears to be linked to macOS system-level or user-level network permissions or configurations, not the application itself. All standard troubleshooting steps (permissions, resets, reinstallation, firewall, alternate user accounts) have been exhausted.

Request:

Could you please advise on any additional macOS system settings, permission resets, or diagnostic steps that could resolve this user-specific local network connectivity issue for the Windows App? Is there a way to fully reset or reinitialize network-related permissions at the user level in macOS 15.4.1?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards, Nikita
