iPhone 15 Pro Max overheating after iOS 18 update

Pretty much what the subject says. My phone is getting super hot for no reason after the 18 update.

No, not leaving it in the sun hot. I will be texting someone and all of a sudden, I can’t even hold my phone it’s that hot!!

Why and how do I fix this?

Those are normal conditions after you update your iPhone as it must re-index all of your data and complete other background tasks such as installing new features. Indexing is the process of creating and sorting a searchable database on your iPhone, many features use that on iPhone such as Search in Messages. But these conditions should go away after a few days.

By the way your iPhone is still usable during this time. If it were overheating at a dangerous level beyond the iPhone's normal operating temperature range, it would shut itself off with a message and prevent you from using it until it cooled down.
