How to split a large FCP video project into two libraries on an external drive?

It keeps spinning and spinning.

Can I go into my external drive where the Library for my Trip around the World is stored, open the package contents and move half of the events to a new library I will call Trip around the World-Part 2 ?

No, you cannot. Do not do anything inside the library bundle. Splitting the library into two if the drive is very full will not do any good.

Generally for large productions it's best to keep the media outside of the library rather than in the library bundle.

Could you give some information about your system and your drives? The best way to do this is to post an EtreCheck report https://etrecheck.com giving the application Full Disk Access in Privacy & Security System Settings. Copy the report and use the Add Text button to paste the result into reply box.
