imovie will not allow additional audio clips

Using iMovie 10.4.2. with Ventura 13.7.4. Cannot add second+ audio clips. Does not allow me to do the usual drag/drop the clip from the media bin to the timeline workspace. It just places the clip on top of the other audio clip, even if its dragged to the bottom of the other clip, etc. I've also noticed that iMovie is not accurately trimming audio clips, sometimes leaving sound at the end of the actual clip that has been cut. Thank you.

Clip Splitting dropping audio in Quicktime I work in the film industry and often have to put together demo reels and promotions clips from TV shows, etc. My normal workflow has me opening up episodes in Quicktime, quickly scanning an episode and using the clip splitting function to create a much smaller reference file for use in FCPX in order to keep the editing process quicker and library files smaller. However, Quicktime is dropping audio randomly when I use this function now during the editing process. I'll remove a clip and it'll just stop playing audio, and then start again when I clip again. If I ignore the audio drop and save the file, those audio drops are saved to the new files. The original files obviously do not have an audio drop. My current workout around is to do the editing in iMovie, but that leads to much larger reference files, (larger than the originals in most cases!), and scanning in iMovie is much much slower than in QuickTime. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?

iMovie can't drag videos down to timeline I have seen this in other questions but with no solution. I am trying to combine multiple QuickTime movies I have into 1. they are about 40 min long each. They have audio and video, I import them into iMovie but then always get the following error message "you are combing audio and video clips outside the primary storyline. You cannot add video clips to existing audio only compound clips". This makes no sense to me. I have searched the net for a solution and have found none. I have qt movies that have audio already and am only trying to combine them. nothing fancy here. I have opened a project. No where does it indicate that I have an audio only project and all my clips are just movies with sound so where is there an audio only clip? I am completely lost here and stuck. I have never used iMovie before because have always gotten this message and then just quit and given up but this time I want to make this work. oh, I am using MacOS Monterey and iMovie version 10.3.5. Please advise. thanks!

Why does imovie cut my audio/video off at the end of the clip? I'm trying to add short (17sec) intro clips to my video, but when I put it in, the last sec gets cut off, leaving the speaker's voice being cut off prior to the end of the word. How do I stop this? I'm using iMovie 10.4.3; MacOS Monterey 12.4
