My Epub only shows three chapters

Found an old, out of print book in pdf format. I decited to make it into an ePub, which I did using Pages. Followed all the rules but the index shows only the first 3 of 21 chapters. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Apple Books only shows first page in each chapter I downloaded an epub on my Mac then copied it to Books on an iPad using he sync feature in the Finder. When I read the book on the iPad it only shows text on the first page. Going to the next page shows the dirt page off the next chapter. If I make the text smaller Books still shows a full page of text. The text is there, but Books will only show one page of it. It does the same on the Mac.

epub files not working I've read through a few threads on this issue, mostly from some time ago, but none seem to offer a solution, or explanation as to why Apple have changed how books works so that any epub documents no longer work. I'm running Ventura but am aware that others have had issues with earlier os versions also. I have a library of several hundred epub books, direct from the publishers (not via apple store) & none work since updating to Ventura. I've tried deleting them & re-adding & even getting new epub files of some from the publishers. I've tried re-setting books also. I have seen some folks suggesting converting epub files to PDF but why do we, as customers, accept that? epub is a valid format & why should we allow Apple to do anything that means purchases aren't usable?

Bug report: Last chapters of long epub file are blank I’m reading a very long epub file in Apple Books. After page 11171 the next chapters are just blank. . I’m on iPhone 13 Pro Max and the latest version of iOS (15.6). In the table of contents more chapters are listed, but they are also just blank or it is not even possible to select them. Disabling vertical scrolling also doesn’t change anything. The ePub in question is this one https://github.com/ThrawnCA/MoL-ebook/releases/tag/1.0.0 I also opened that file in another ePub reader on iOS (Yomu Reader) and it loads the later chapters just fine.
