How to synch (and keep separate) two computers to iCloud

I have a desktop and laptop, and I use one Apple ID. I would like to synch each to iCloud. I already do this with my desktop. My laptop has different stuff on the desktop and documents folders, and I would like to synch them separately. If I choose to synch the laptop desktop and documents folders, will that result in two separate desktops and two separate documents folders (my preference)? Or will iCloud mix everything together?

When you have two Macs connected to iCloud, and if both Macs have Desktop & Documents in iCloud Drive, then you'll see two Documents and Desktop folders on both Macs. They will remain separate, but available to every device connected to that account. No mixing!

Does that work for you?
