When I receive a message from a certain person in my text, it is preceded by a bell with a slash through it. I do not receive the sound indication that I have a message. Why is this?

You have hide alerts set up for that contact.
Open the message thread, click on the top icon/username and turn off hide alerts.
Why do I not receive sound alerts for messages from a specific person on my iPhone?
