Canon imageCLASS MF4880dw printer/ scanner will not scan with MacBook Air Sonoma 14.6.1

I've had the Canon imageCLASS MF4889dw printer/ scanner for quite some time. I've never managed to get the scanner to work with it. I just got an upgraded system on my MacBook Air (Sonoma 14.6.1) and decided to retry. I downloaded the driver for the scanner, but when I try to scan and click on the Canon MF Scan Utility, it says "No available scanner found. Follow the instructions in the User's Guide for the scanner driver to add the scanners you are using." I've tried multiple times, but I don't seem to be able to add the scanner. When I try with the IP address in the Canon MF Scan Utility, it ultimately says: "The specified scanner is not supported." Is that true or am I doing something wrong? On either the computer or the printer/ scanner? Can't figure out if it's worth continuing to try to trouble shoot or if it's just not going to work.

I was just dealing with this painstaking issue as well today. Turns out, you don't want to use the MF Scan Utility at all! After downloading the scan software from Canon's site, open the MF Toolbox. There you'll (hopefully) be able to see your scanner. The UI is not intuitive though, once the scanner is added, there's no window for the Toolbox application. Only the menu bar. Go to Scanner -> your scanner, and it should open up a whole scanning window! For me, I also had to go to the "Remote Scanner" option on the printer.

This is what worked for me on my mf8380cdw. Hopefully this helps!
